It seems perfectly acceptable to me to include male friendship in the ancient world under the category of 'homoeroticism.' Indeed, we might provocatively view friendship in the contemporary world along the same lines. Every same-sex friendship surely lies somewhere on a homoerotic continuum, n'est-ce pas?.BRIAN OARDhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00695622618831825498noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2991343547887142385.post-79379479289629796382011-11-30T23:36:03.761-05:002011-11-30T23:36:03.761-05:00I think you're mistaking the nature of friends...I think you're mistaking the nature of friendship in Augustine's time with homoeroticism. Culturally, men and women were not close friends. A man would not share his deepest thoughts with a woman as freely as he would share it with a man, largely due to societal expectations. I think the case can be made that his apparent preference for male friends is largely do to that fact.Claytonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11243044939370475898noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2991343547887142385.post-75194072427177895622011-09-19T11:05:59.760-04:002011-09-19T11:05:59.760-04:00Have Augustine's meditations on time and memor...Have Augustine's meditations on time and memory aged well?
